mon valley views: Old school attitude, new school whatever

Welcome to Mon Valley Views

“Call me a joker, call me a fool, right at this moment I’m totally cool.

Clear as a crystal, sharp as a knife, I feel like I’m in the prime of my life.”

Billy Joel

(Chris Paglia)

Back in the late 1970s, union employees at The Valley Independent went on strike. I don’t remember many details because of how young I was although I remember vividly being told to be careful at the playground, for fear that striking workers might “target” me or my brothers because my dad was management.

During the strike, union workers published a tabloid newspaper called “Valley Views”, which provided workers with an outlet for their creativity, and also served as an alternative to what The Valley Independent was putting out. Again, I don’t remember much about the publication even though my grandfather proudly displayed a copy of the very first “Valley Views” ever released.

Looking back, I realize how important it is for people to have choices, alternatives if you will. “Valley Views” was never really meant to replace The Valley Independent, but rather to serve as an alternative for readers looking for something different.

That’s what we hope to do here at Mon Valley Views, offer readers a different perspective on life in the mid-Monongahela Valley.

We won’t “publish” every day, and our focus will offer a glimpse into the lives of folks you may not be aware are making a major impact in our area. Because we travel a lot, we’ll try to offer perspectives into other areas of the region, state and country, showing definitively that our way of life in our Mon Valley isn’t exclusive to the municipalities in which we live.

We appreciate your interest in our platform, and we thank you in advance for choosing us as your alternative news source here in the Valley.
